The Air Jordan 3 Retro "Doernbecher" was designed by Cole Johanson as part of the OHSU Doernbecher Freestyle program, which allows young patients to design Nike footwear. This version features a striking Varsity Red upper with a subtle, tonal diamond grid pattern embossed throughout, which actually spells out the designer's name, "Cole." Metallic Silver appears on the elephant print overlays and the Jumpman logos. The most personal details are found on the shoe's heel tabs, where Cole's two favorite foods, spaghetti and chocolate, are written. The insoles also feature the words "Strength" and "Courage," reflecting his fight against Lymphoma. The shoe was originally released in 2010 and then re-released in 2013, with the SKU 437536-600 applying to both adult-sized releases.
